The FSC is an international, membership-based, non-profit organization that supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. The FSC was founded in 1993 in Toronto, Canada by representatives from environmental groups, the timber industry, the forestry profession, indigenous peoples’ organizations, and community forestry groups from 25 countries. Since inception, the organization’s membership has grown to comprise more than 550 members from 67 countries (as of 2004). |
